With 25 years of experience in global long-short equity, Ali specializes in emerging markets and financials. He spent much of his career at SAC Global and HBK Investments before founding Carrhae Capital in 2011. At SAC Global, he managed the emerging markets long/short equity portfolio and served on the Investment Committee. Previously, he was a partner at HBK Investments, leading emerging market equities and establishing their Istanbul office in 2008. Ali began his career at McKinsey & Company and later joined Goldman Sachs as an Associate in the Principal Strategies Group. He holds a BSc in Economics and a BA in German Literature and International Studies from the Wharton School of Business.

Plamen Dokov joined Carrhae Capital at its inception from SAC Global Investors where he was a Senior Analyst focused on the Energy sector and working directly with Ali Akay. Ali and Plamen have worked together for 17 years, building a strong partnership that has been fundamental to Carrhae's success.

Prior to that, Plamen was an Associate with the Morgan Stanley Principal Strategies group, covering pan-European special situations.

Plamen began his career as an analyst at Lazard where he focused on generalist M&A practices.

Plamen is a CFA Charterholder and holds a BA in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Sofia in Bulgaria.

Shane Bolton has extensive experience within Emerging Markets. He worked at Goldman Sachs for 21 years and was the Partner responsible for the Asia Prime Brokerage business and was based in Hong Kong for eleven years. Prior to this he ran the Asia Prime Brokerage sales, capital introduction and consulting teams; Asia Execution Sales (prime brokerage, futures, electronic trading and CSAs) and was co-head of the Asia electronic trading business in Hong Kong.

Prior to this, Shane was Co-Head of Prime Brokerage Sales and worked in capital introduction having been Co-Head of the Emerging Europe product.

Shane originally worked at Lehman Brothers for 6 years in corporate finance, equity capital markets, and then in Asian and Emerging European equity sales.

Shane's most recent role was COO for a family backed private venture/growth business investing in technology companies.

Robin Howes joined Carrhae Capital from Tudor Investment Corporation where he held several senior positions in both London and Connecticut offices. Robin spent 16 years at Tudor (2005-2016 and 2018-2023). Most recently, Robin was Deputy Chief Operating Officer, where he was responsible for a significant number of the non-investment teams, counterparty relationships and served on a number of internal committees with other senior executives. From 2016-2017, Robin was Chief Operating Officer for Ixworth Capital, helping to plan and successfully launch its macro fund. Robin holds an MBA from Durham University Business School.
